Bald eagles have 7,000 feathers. Feathers consist of interlocking microscopic structures that are light, but very strong. Layers of feathers trap air to insulate birds against cold and protect them from rain.

What is the importance of eagle feather?

It was given the honor of carrying the prayers of man between the World of Earth and the World of Spirit, where the Creator and grandfathers reside. To wear or hold an Eagle feather causes the Creator to take immediate notice. With the Eagle feather, the Creator is honored in the highest way.

Can I keep eagle feathers and eagle parts?

No, it is illegal for any individual to keep a bald or golden eagle, including its parts (feathers, feet, egg shells etc.) without a federal permit. State, tribal, and other permits may be needed as well. Eagle feathers are obtained from Elders who have the ability to give them to individuals.

It symbolizes rebirth, dawn, spring's direction, and renewed life for us. The eagle significance is particularly characteristic of new beginnings, resilience, and stamina for those who have been experiencing difficult passages in life.

The eagle has the ability to fly highest and closest to thecreator and also has the sight to see all the ways of being from great distances. 

The Eagle’s teaching of love can be found in the core of allteachings, therefore an eagle feather is considered the highest honor and asacred gift.

To know love is to know peace. View your inner-self from the perspective of all teachings.

This is to know love and to love yourself truly.

Then you will be at peace with yourself, the balance of life,all things and also with the creator.

What does it mean to be gifted a feather

The Eagle feather is the most sacred and honoured gift given to an individual.

The wings of an Eagle represent the balance needed between male and female, each one dependent upon the strengths and abilities of the other. When one receives an Eagle feather, that person is being acknowledged with gratitude, love and ultimate respect.

Certain people are able to take Eagle feathers from the Eagle. One is given the right to be able to do so. Eagle feathers are obtained from Elders who have the ability to give them to individuals.

So what does it mean when a feather is brown?

A brown feather can symbolize someone who lives freely but is grounded, stable and well-balanced. If you believe in guardian angels and find a brown feather in an unlikely place, it's also possible that it's a sign that they are guarding you nearby.


Caring for an Eagle Feather

Smudge your Eagle feather with sweetgrass or sage from time to time. Keep your Eagle feather in a clean, safe compartment away from alcohol, drugs and related paraphernalia.

A person must not be intoxicated with drugs or alcohol while handling an Eagle feather.

The Eagle is accorded the highest respect by all First Nations

The Bald Eagle (and their feathers) are highly revered and considered sacred Indigenous Peoples traditions, culture and religion. They are honored with great care and shown the deepest respect. They represent honesty, truth, majesty, strength, courage, wisdom, power and freedom.

The meaning of the Eagle symbol was to signify courage, wisdom and strength and its purpose was as the messenger to the Creator. Eagle feathers are highly significant to the Indigenous Peoples and the bones of eagles were used to make the whistles and flutes used at religious ceremonies and rituals.
